Screen Door Repair in Brent, AL

The most common screen door call we get is a sliding screen that has fallen out of its track for the third time. That is a roller and track problem, not a screen problem, and no amount of forcing it back up will fix it.

Screen Door Repair — Brent, Alabama

Brent is part of our regular Bibb County territory, and between Main Street, the AL-5 corridor and the the Cahaba River area we are here most weeks.

Between the established parts of Brent and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.

Brent conditions and screen door repair

Humidity stays high from late spring through September, which is exactly when wood doors that fit fine in winter start dragging on the jamb.

Rain drives grit and organic debris into the screen track, and that debris packs down under the rollers and holds moisture against the frame.

Humidity corrodes the steel components in screen rollers and rusts the tiny springs in adjusters, so screens seize up and drop out of their track.

It is why the same repair done properly in Brent lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.

Local factors we account for in Brent: heavy rainfall and sustained humidity — typical of west Alabama.

What happens when we get there

  1. Work out whether it is the screen or the trackA screen that jams is often a track problem. Replacing rollers in a damaged track fixes nothing.
  2. Check the frame for squareA racked frame will never slide properly. Corner keys get reset before anything else is considered.
  3. Match the mesh to the exposureOn a sun-facing opening, standard fibreglass will be brittle within a couple of seasons, so we specify accordingly.
  4. Rescreen with correct tensionEven tension and properly seated spline so the mesh does not sag or pull out of the channel. Across west Alabama we check the frame anchorage carefully, because seasonal soil movement works fixings loose over time.
  5. Fit and adjust the rollersBoth rollers set so the frame runs level and the latch meets its keeper without lifting.
  6. Test the full travelThe door should move with one finger, latch cleanly and stay in the track.

One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.

What affects the cost of screen door repair in Brent

Pricing on screen door repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:

  • roller and track work in addition to the screen itself
  • the mesh type chosen, from standard fiberglass to pet-resistant and solar
  • storm door hardware such as closers and latches
  • custom-built replacement panels where the original is not repairable
  • rescreening versus repairing or replacing the frame

Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Brent.

Screen door repair in Brent: questions we get asked

My storm door blew open and broke. Can it be repaired?

Usually yes: the closer and its mounting take the damage. We repair the mounting and fit a wind chain so the next gust does not do the same thing.

My sliding screen keeps falling out. Why does it keep happening?

The rollers have worn down so the panel is riding too low and the top rail no longer sits in the head channel. Lifting it back in without replacing the rollers means it will come out again, usually within days.

Can you make a screen that keeps out the tiny biting insects?

Yes, fine no-see-um mesh. It has a much tighter weave, and in the parts of Bibb County near water it is the only thing that actually works against the smallest biters.

Is it worth rescreening or should I just buy a new screen door?

Rescreening is far cheaper and the frame is usually fine. New panels only make sense when the frame is bent beyond straightening or the corners are gone.

The screen slides hard even though it is not falling out. What is wrong?

Either the rollers have seized or the track is packed with debris. In Brent the track collects a surprising amount of grit, and it acts like grinding paste on the rollers.

Will a solar screen make my room cooler?

It helps noticeably on a sunny exposure. Solar mesh blocks a good portion of the heat before it reaches the glass, which matters on west-facing doors during Brent summers.
