Door Glass Repair and Replacement in Alabama

Broken door glass is not a wait-and-see problem. It is a security hole and an injury risk, and on a tempered panel the whole sheet can let go at once. We board up, measure and replace.

Door Glass Repair

Door glass has to be safety glazing by code, which means tempered or laminated. That is not a detail to compromise on, and it is why replacing door glass is not the same job as replacing a window pane.

Fogging between the panes is the most common door glass call we get. The insulated unit has lost its seal, and no amount of cleaning helps because the moisture is inside the sealed cavity.

We replace glass in sliding doors, French doors, entry doors with decorative inserts and commercial storefront doors, and in most cases the frame stays exactly where it is.

Alabama is not one climate. Salt air on the coast, expansive clay through the Black Belt and the Birmingham metro, hard freezes on Sand Mountain and blowing sand in the Wiregrass all attack doors differently, and the right repair changes with them. Pick your city below for what we see locally.

Door Glass Repair FAQs

Can foggy door glass be cleaned or defogged?

No. The moisture is sealed inside the insulated unit between the panes, so there is no surface to clean. The glass unit gets replaced, but the door and frame stay.

How quickly can broken door glass be secured?

Board-up comes first and happens as fast as we can get to you in your area. The replacement glass is made to order, so the sequence is usually secure now, glass shortly after.

Does door glass have to be tempered?

Yes. Glass in and around doors is a safety glazing position under code, which means tempered or laminated. It is not somewhere to save money with ordinary annealed glass.

My tempered patio door glass shattered into tiny pieces on its own. How?

Tempered glass fails completely by design, and it can happen from a small chip at the edge or from a nickel sulfide inclusion in the glass itself. Spontaneous breakage is uncommon but real, and there is usually nothing you did wrong.

Can you replace just the glass and keep my door?

In most cases, yes. That is the whole point of glass replacement. Sliding panels, French door lites and entry door inserts can nearly always be reglazed in place.

Will new glass help with heat coming through my patio door?

Yes, if you go to a low-E insulated unit. In your area summers the heat coming through an old single-pane or failed unit is significant, and the difference in the room is noticeable.
