Between Geneva proper, the the courthouse square area and the newer building out toward the US-84 corridor, we stay busy in Geneva County, and Samson is close enough that we are often nearby.
The mix of housing here matters for door work. Older Geneva homes have wood frames and hardware worth repairing rather than replacing, while newer construction tends to have vinyl and aluminum systems where the moving parts wear out long before anything else does.

These are the door handle repair faults we are called out to most often in Geneva. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The thumb-turn is stiff but the key side is smoothWear or corrosion isolated to the inside cylinder, which can be replaced on its own.
- The whole handle set is loose on the doorBacked-out mounting screws, or a bore that has worn oversized.
- The exterior handle on the sliding door has snappedCommon on old patio doors where the pull is a thin casting under years of load.
- The lever has dropped a few degrees and stayed thereA fatigued return spring in the rose or a worn spindle no longer holding the lever level.
- Rattling when the door is closedLatch and strike clearance has opened up, often after the handle set was replaced with a different backset.
- Screws visible on the exterior sideNot a fault, but a security issue worth correcting on an entry door.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why door handle repair fails in the Wiregrass
The Wiregrass gets punishing summer heat and enough tropical rain that hurricane remnants are a normal part of the year, not an exception. Sally and Michael both did door and window damage this far inland.
Water running down a door face gets behind the exterior rose and sits against the latch mechanism, which rusts the spring cassette and is why exterior handles fail far more often than interior ones.
Grit works into the space between the handle rose and the door face and into the latch mechanism, and once it is in there the handle feels gritty to turn and the internal spring is wearing every time it moves.
Knowing that is the difference between a repair that holds through a Geneva summer and one that does not.
Local factors we account for in Geneva: heavy rainfall and blowing sand — typical of the Wiregrass.

- Separate the handle from the latchA handle that turns without retracting is a different job to a latch that will not move. We check them independently.
- Check the door before the hardwareA lever that needs force is often fighting a misaligned strike rather than failing on its own.
- Reuse what is soundIf the escutcheons and cylinder are good, we change the failed part and keep the rest, which matters on matched sets.
- Fit square to the doorBackset, thickness and bore all get checked. A set fitted to an oversized bore will work loose again within weeks.
- Adjust the latch engagementThe door should close and latch with a light push, not a shove.
- Check the rest of the setHandles usually fail in groups, so we test the others while we are there rather than leaving you to call again. Sandy-soil jobs get their running surfaces cleaned out thoroughly, because new rollers fitted into a gritty track will not last a year.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door handle repair in Geneva
Pricing on door handle repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- repair of the existing set versus full replacement
- keyed versus non-keyed function
- how many doors are being done at once
- whether the bore or backset needs correction
- commercial grade requirements on high-use doors
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Geneva.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door handle repair in Geneva: questions we get asked
The handle turns but the door will not open. What is wrong?
The connection between the handle and the latch has broken, usually the spindle or the internal drive. If somebody is stuck behind that door, say so when you call and we will treat it accordingly.
My sliding door handle snapped off. Is that a common failure?
Very. The exterior pull on older patio doors is a thin casting that has been carrying the full weight of the panel every time someone drags a stiff door open. If your handle broke, check how hard the door is to move, because that is often the underlying cause.
My lever handle droops. Can that be repaired?
Yes, usually. The return spring inside the handle body has failed. On decent hardware we can replace the spring cassette; on thin builder-grade sets it is often cheaper to fit a better handle than to rebuild a weak one.
Why does my exterior handle keep corroding?
Exposure. In Geneva County an exterior handle needs a finish rated for it, and cheap plated hardware on a door that gets weather will pit within a couple of years no matter how well it is installed.
Why does my door rattle after a new handle was fitted?
The new latch is probably sitting at a slightly different depth than the old one, so the strike no longer holds the door tight. Adjusting the strike fixes it in a few minutes.
Do you do commercial handle and lever work?
Yes, including Grade 1 lever sets, classroom and storeroom functions and hardware on doors with closers, where the handle has to work against constant spring pressure.
