We take New Market work across the whole town, Winchester Road through Ford Chapel, and we cross into Madison and Meridianville on the same trips.
A lot of what we see in Madison County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

These are the door handle repair faults we are called out to most often in New Market. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The handle sticks in the retracted positionSeized mechanism or a spring that has broken and jammed.
- A keyed handle will not turn with the keyThe cylinder inside the handle has failed, which is separate from the handle body itself.
- The handle set has left rub marks on the door faceThe rose has loosened and is rotating, which will eventually chew through the finish.
- Grinding or gritty feel when you turn itDebris or corrosion inside the mechanism.
- The lever droops and will not return levelFailed return spring inside the handle body.
- You have to jiggle the handle for the door to openThe latch is only partly retracting, or the strike is catching it.

The Tennessee Valley runs a wider temperature swing than most of Alabama. Summer humidity sits on aluminum and vinyl frames for months, then December through February drops below freezing dozens of nights, and the valley picks up an ice event every few winters.
Water running down a door face gets behind the exterior rose and sits against the latch mechanism, which rusts the spring cassette and is why exterior handles fail far more often than interior ones.
Humidity swells a wood door so the latch has to be pulled harder to clear a tight strike, and that extra force goes straight through the handle spindle, which is the part that eventually shears.
Knowing that is the difference between a repair that holds through a New Market summer and one that does not.
Local factors we account for in New Market: heavy rainfall and sustained humidity — typical of the Tennessee Valley.

- Separate the handle from the latchA handle that turns without retracting is a different job to a latch that will not move. We check them independently.
- Check the door and strike alignmentA latch dragging on the strike puts load through the handle mechanism and is a common reason handles fail early. Valley jobs get checked across the humidity swing, so we adjust for the range rather than for the day we happen to be there.
- Reuse what is soundIf the escutcheons and cylinder are good, we change the failed part and keep the rest, which matters on matched sets.
- Fit square to the doorBackset, thickness and bore all get checked. A set fitted to an oversized bore will work loose again within weeks.
- Adjust the latch engagementThe door should close and latch with a light push, not a shove.
- Check the rest of the setHandles usually fail in groups, so we test the others while we are there rather than leaving you to call again.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door handle repair in New Market
We would rather tell you what drives the price than quote a number that turns out to be wrong once we see the door. On a door handle repair job in New Market, the main variables are these:
- the grade and finish of the hardware chosen
- keyed versus non-keyed function
- whether the bore or backset needs correction
- commercial grade requirements on high-use doors
- repair of the existing set versus full replacement
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to New Market.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door handle repair in New Market: questions we get asked
The handle turns but the door will not open. What is wrong?
The connection between the handle and the latch has broken, usually the spindle or the internal drive. If somebody is stuck behind that door, say so when you call and we will treat it accordingly.
Why does my door rattle after a new handle was fitted?
The new latch is probably sitting at a slightly different depth than the old one, so the strike no longer holds the door tight. Adjusting the strike fixes it in a few minutes.
My sliding door handle snapped off. Is that a common failure?
Very. The exterior pull on older patio doors is a thin casting that has been carrying the full weight of the panel every time someone drags a stiff door open. If your handle broke, check how hard the door is to move, because that is often the underlying cause.
Do I need to replace the lock to replace the handle?
Not necessarily. On a keyed entry set they are integrated, but on many doors the handle and the deadbolt are separate and you can change one without touching the other.
Why does my exterior handle keep corroding?
Exposure. In Madison County an exterior handle needs a finish rated for it, and cheap plated hardware on a door that gets weather will pit within a couple of years no matter how well it is installed.
My lever handle droops. Can that be repaired?
Yes, usually. The return spring inside the handle body has failed. On decent hardware we can replace the spring cassette; on thin builder-grade sets it is often cheaper to fit a better handle than to rebuild a weak one.
