Between Satsuma proper, the the Baker Road corridor area and the newer building out toward the US-43 corridor, we stay busy in Mobile County, and Prichard is close enough that we are often nearby.
Between the established parts of Satsuma and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.

Between roughly 65 inches of rain a year, near-constant humidity and a June-to-November hurricane season, coastal doors work harder than doors anywhere else in Alabama.
Windows are designed to collect water in the frame and drain it out through weep holes, and blocked weeps during heavy rain is the standard reason water appears on an interior sill.
High humidity saturates the desiccant in a sealed glass unit quickly once its seal has begun to fail, and it also keeps wood sashes at a moisture content where rot can get started.
Knowing that is the difference between a repair that holds through a Satsuma summer and one that does not.
Local factors we account for in Satsuma: heavy rainfall and sustained humidity — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

- Identify the window and its makerBalances, operators and hardware are manufacturer-specific. Identifying the system decides what is available and what has to be adapted.
- Test the moving parts independentlySash movement, locking and sealing each get checked separately so we know which one has failed. We check the drainage path on every coastal opening, because wind-driven rain gets in where ordinary rain never would.
- Check the drainageBlocked weep slots put water on the sill and into the wall, and they are behind a lot of what gets blamed on the glass.
- Be clear where replacement is rightWhere a frame is rotted through or a unit is obsolete, we say so plainly instead of selling a repair that will not hold.
- Reseal properlyNew weatherstrip and glazing seals so the window performs as it should.
- Check it holds where you leave itA sash that creeps down after a few minutes has not been fixed, so we leave it open and come back to it before finishing.

There is no single price for window repair in Satsuma, because two doors with identical symptoms can need very different work. Here is what makes the difference:
- screen work alongside the window repair
- the type of window and whether replacement hardware is still available
- wood repair and rot splicing where the frame is damaged
- glass unit size, tempering and low-E coatings
- single window versus several in one visit

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Window repair in Satsuma: questions we get asked
My casement crank spins without moving the window. Why?
The gears in the operator have stripped. It is a common failure and a straightforward replacement as long as we can identify the manufacturer.
How do I stop condensation on my windows in winter?
Some of it is indoor humidity rather than the window. But if the glass surface is cold enough to condense heavily, the unit may have failed. In Satsuma it is worth checking whether the moisture is on the surface or between the panes.
My window will not stay open. What is broken?
The balances. On a double hung window they counterweight the sash, and when one fails the sash drops. It is a replaceable part and far cheaper than a new window.
Can painted-shut windows be opened again?
Usually yes, with care. It takes patience to cut the paint seal without damaging the sash or the stops, but old windows in Satsuma homes are often perfectly serviceable once freed.
Is it worth repairing old wood windows?
Very often, yes. Old wood windows in Satsuma were made from better material than most modern replacements and were designed to be repaired. Rot can be spliced, sashes rebuilt and balances replaced.
Can foggy windows be repaired?
The sealed glass unit gets replaced, but the frame, sash and hardware stay. That is the repair, and it costs a fraction of window replacement.
