Skyline is part of our regular Jackson County territory, and between the AL-79 corridor, Guntersville Lake and the Skyline Wildlife Management Area area we are here most weeks.
Between the established parts of Skyline and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.
One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.

These are the storefront door repair faults we are called out to most often in Skyline. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The door has been forced and the frame is bentBreak-in damage that needs the frame straightened and reinforced.
- There is a crescent-shaped wear mark on the thresholdThe door is riding on the bottom pivot's failing bearing and scribing the sill as it swings.
- The glass moves within the rail when the door is pushedFailed setting blocks or glazing tape, which puts load onto the glass edge rather than the frame.
- Water blowing under the door during stormsFailed sweep and threshold seal.
- The deadlatch catches but the door can be shimmied openA worn auxiliary latch that is no longer deadlocking the main bolt.
- The lock cylinder is stiff or seizedWorn mortise cylinder, often with grit or corrosion in it.

Elevation means wind. Doors on exposed western walls take a beating that the same door in a sheltered valley subdivision would never see.
A gust catching a storefront door with no overhead stop drives it past its limit and destroys the closer arm, and repeated wind loading is what works a door off its pivots.
Cold thickens the fluid in a concealed overhead or floor closer, so a storefront door that latched reliably in September stops pulling itself fully shut on a January morning, and staff start finding the door unlocked.
Knowing that is the difference between a repair that holds through a Skyline summer and one that does not.
Local factors we account for in Skyline: storm wind and winter freezes — typical of the Sand Mountain and Lookout Mountain plateau.

- Check the corners of the doorA dropped bottom rail is the single most common storefront failure, and it mimics half a dozen other faults.
- Check the closer independentlyWe disconnect and test the closer separately so we know whether the resistance is the closer or the door binding. Plateau jobs get seals and lubricants rated for freezing temperatures, since standard products stiffen and stop working when it matters.
- Secure before we finishIf the deadlatch or the cylinder is the problem, the door is made lockable before we leave, whatever else is outstanding.
- Reset and square the doorPivots set, door squared in the opening, latch engaging cleanly without lifting or pulling.
- Set the closer to codeOpening force and closing speed adjusted for accessibility and for the actual traffic through the door.
- Work to your scheduleWe plan around trading hours so the entrance is not out of service during business.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of storefront door repair in Skyline
Pricing on storefront door repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- hardware grade and ADA compliance requirements
- after-hours or emergency scheduling
- glass replacement and whether board-up is needed first
- whether the pivots, closer, or both need replacing
- concealed and floor closers versus surface mounted units
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Skyline.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Storefront door repair in Skyline: questions we get asked
Someone broke in and bent the frame. Is it repairable?
In most cases. Aluminum frames damaged at the lock and strike can be straightened and reinforced. We secure the opening first and then do the permanent repair.
Do you replace storefront glass?
Yes, tempered glass for doors, sidelites and transoms. Board-up happens first so you can trade, and the glass follows once the unit is made.
How often should storefront doors be serviced?
For a busy Skyline entrance, once or twice a year. Pivots and closers wear gradually, and adjusting them before they fail is far cheaper than an emergency call when the door will not latch.
The bottom rail of our door is coming loose. Is that serious?
Yes. The bottom rail holds the glass. Once its connection loosens, the glass is no longer properly supported and the door is on borrowed time.
Can you add a panic bar to our storefront door?
Yes, and depending on the occupancy of your Skyline building it may be required. Exit devices can be fitted to most aluminum storefront doors.
How much does it cost to repair a storefront door versus replacing it?
Repair is dramatically cheaper. Aluminum storefront systems are designed with serviceable parts, and pivots, closers, latches and rails are all replaceable. Replacing an entrance means glass, framing and often the surrounding work.
