Our Stapleton customers are spread from the AL-59 corridor to Mobile Bay and out around the Tensaw River delta, and we serve the surrounding Baldwin County communities on the same schedule.
Between the established parts of Stapleton and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.

These are the door closer repair faults we are called out to most often in Stapleton. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The door slamsLatch speed valve out of adjustment, or a closer that has failed internally.
- The door is very hard to push openCloser over-tensioned, often to compensate for a door that will not latch.
- The door closes at a good speed then slams the last inchLatch speed set too fast, or a worn valve that no longer holds the latch adjustment.
- Different behavior in summer and winterFluid viscosity changing with temperature, which needs seasonal adjustment or a temperature-stable closer.
- The door closes fast then stops shortMismatched sweep and latch speed settings.
- Oil running down the door or the wallFailed seal inside the closer body. The unit needs replacing.

Salt air is the single biggest factor on the coast. It attacks the steel inside roller bearings, hinge pins, latch mechanisms and closer springs, and it does it year round whether or not a storm ever comes.
Water running down a door face and into a surface closer body corrodes the internals and the mounting fasteners, and a closer that has been wet repeatedly usually fails at the seal.
Salt air corrodes closer arm pivots and the exposed spindle where it enters the closer body, and once that seal is compromised the closer starts weeping oil and its life is effectively over.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Stapleton: heavy rainfall and salt air — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

- Watch the whole cycle, twiceOpening force, sweep speed, latch speed and backcheck. Each is a separate adjustment and each fails differently.
- Rule out the door before blaming the closerA door binding on the frame makes a perfectly good closer look weak, and turning the closer up is the wrong answer.
- Adjust before replacingMany closers we are called to are serviceable and simply out of adjustment. That is a much smaller job and we say so. On the coast we also check every fastener on the opening, because salt finds plated screws long before it touches the door itself.
- Match to the opening's dutyA fire door, an accessible entrance and an internal office door have different requirements, and the specification follows the door.
- Set for people, not just for latchingThe door needs to close and latch every time and still be openable by someone with limited strength.
- Fit a stop where it is neededA door with no stop will destroy its own closer the first time the wind catches it.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door closer repair in Stapleton
Pricing on door closer repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- whether the mounting has to be repaired or reinforced
- the size and weight of the door and its exposure to wind
- adjustment versus rebuild versus full replacement
- adding overhead stops or hold-open functions
- fire rating and accessibility compliance requirements
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Stapleton.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door closer repair in Stapleton: questions we get asked
There is oil dripping from my door closer. Can it be refilled?
No. Closers are sealed units, and once the seal fails the closer is finished. Refilling is not possible on standard units and the unit needs replacing.
My door does not close all the way. What is going on?
Either the closing force is too low, or the door is dragging on the frame in the last few inches. In Stapleton we see the second one often, because a frame that has moved makes a good closer look weak.
Can I adjust the closer myself?
The valves are accessible, but they are easy to over-adjust and some closers will lose their spring tension entirely if a valve is backed out too far. If you are not sure which valve does what, it is worth a call first.
My door slams every time. Can that be adjusted?
Almost always. There is a latch speed valve on the closer that controls the last few inches, and it has probably drifted or been set wrong. Adjusting it takes minutes and saves your frame, hinges and hardware from a lot of abuse.
How long do door closers last?
A good quality closer on a properly hung door can run for well over a decade. A cheap closer on a heavy exterior door in Stapleton might last a couple of years, especially if it is fighting a misaligned door.
The closer arm on our door is bent. What causes that?
The door was opened past its limit, usually by wind catching it or by someone pushing it hard against a wall. Replacing the arm without adding an overhead stop just means it happens again.
