My lever handle droops. Can that be repaired?
Yes, usually. The return spring inside the handle body has failed. On decent hardware we can replace the spring cassette; on thin builder-grade sets it is often cheaper to fit a better handle than to rebuild a weak one.
Can you fix an old mortise handle set on a historic door?
Often yes. Old mortise sets were built to be serviced, and the original hardware is usually better made than any replacement. We would rather rebuild it than gut a door for a modern set.
Do you do commercial handle and lever work?
Yes, including Grade 1 lever sets, classroom and storeroom functions and hardware on doors with closers, where the handle has to work against constant spring pressure.
The handles in my rental property keep failing. Why?
Almost always builder-grade hardware on doors that get heavy use. Grade 2 or Grade 1 hardware costs more up front and stops the repeat calls, which for a landlord in Elberta usually pays for itself inside two years.
Do I need to replace the lock to replace the handle?
