We take Emerald Mountain work across the whole town, the Emerald Mountain Expressway through Redland Road, and we cross into Millbrook and Wetumpka on the same trips.
The mix of housing here matters for door work. Older Emerald Mountain homes have wood frames and hardware worth repairing rather than replacing, while newer construction tends to have vinyl and aluminum systems where the moving parts wear out long before anything else does.

These are the door frame repair faults we are called out to most often in Emerald Mountain. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The threshold flexes when you step on itFailed sill support beneath, often the first sign of water that has been getting in for years.
- The reveal is wide at the top and tight at the bottomThe hinge-side jamb has rotated, usually from fasteners that never reached the stud.
- Screws in the hinges no longer biteHinge-side jamb material has been stripped or has softened with moisture.
- The door binds at one corner onlyThe frame is out of square, almost always from foundation or wall movement.
- Weatherstrip will not seal no matter what you fitThe gap is not consistent, which means the frame geometry is wrong.
- The frame moves when the door slamsThe frame is no longer solidly fastened to the rough opening.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why door frame repair fails in the River Region
Remnants of Gulf systems still carry serious rain this far inland, and doors on the south and west sides of a house take the brunt of it.
Wind-driven rain hits a frame horizontally and finds the joint between the brickmould and the siding, which is where water gets behind the frame and does damage that is invisible until the jamb goes soft.
Sun destroys the paint film on exposed jamb and brickmould faces, and once the finish fails the wood behind it starts taking on water, which is how a frame that only ever gets weather from above ends up rotting.
It is why the same repair done properly in Emerald Mountain lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Emerald Mountain: storm wind and sun and heat load — typical of the River Region.

- Find out what moved and whyWe check plumb, level and square across the opening and look for the cause, because a frame that is out of square because the foundation moved will go out of square again.
- Probe the full extent of the decaySound wood at the surface can hide a rotten core. We probe until we find solid material, because guessing means doing it twice.
- Choose repair or replacement honestlyIf splicing gets you a solid frame we splice. If the damage runs into the framing behind it, we tell you that instead of covering it.
- Rebuild in material that survives hereTreated timber, composite or a full jamb depending on exposure. Untreated pine at a wet sill is a repair with an expiry date.
- Re-hang to the corrected frameOnce the jamb is sound, the door is reset to it, with hinge fixings that reach the framing rather than just the casing.
- Seal and finishCaulking, flashing and paintable finish so the repair is protected from the first rain. We measure the reveal before and after on River Region jobs, so seasonal movement can be told apart from a genuine fault.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door frame repair in Emerald Mountain
Pricing on door frame repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- whether the cause is structural movement that needs to be addressed first
- whether the threshold and sill pan also need rebuilding
- how far the rot or damage extends into the frame and framing
- whether the frame can be spliced or has to be replaced
- interior versus exterior frames, since exterior work includes weatherproofing
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Emerald Mountain.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door frame repair in Emerald Mountain: questions we get asked
Can a rotted door frame be repaired, or do I need a whole new door?
In most cases the frame can be repaired and the door reused. We cut out the decayed section back to sound wood and splice in new material. Replacing the whole unit only makes sense when the rot has reached the framing behind the jamb.
Someone kicked in my door. Can the frame be saved?
Usually yes, and it can be made stronger than it was. Most kick-ins split the jamb at the strike because the original screws only went into thin jamb material. We rebuild the split and reinforce it into the structural framing behind.
Why does my door bind at just one corner?
The frame is out of square. In Emerald Mountain that is usually the house moving, and the corner that binds tells us which direction it moved. Planing the door to fit hides it for a season but does not fix it.
How long does a door frame repair take?
A straightforward jamb splice or strike rebuild in Emerald Mountain is a few hours. A full frame replacement with new threshold and flashing is most of a day. Structural movement that has to be addressed first can add to that.
How do I know if the damage is rot or termites?
Rot is soft and spongy and follows water paths from the bottom up. Insect damage leaves galleries and frass. Either way the moisture problem that let it start needs fixing, or the repair will not last in Elmore County.
Is it worth repairing a frame on an old house?
Usually very much so. Old growth jamb material is better than most of what you can buy now, and splicing preserves the original profile and casing rather than replacing it with a modern lookalike.
