Morris is part of our regular Jefferson County territory, and between the US-31 corridor, Cliff Road and the the I-65 interchange area we are here most weeks.
Morris has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.
One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.

Two storm seasons a year, spring and late fall, push water and debris against exterior doors across the metro.
When the door frame the screen track is attached to moves, the screen track goes out of parallel with it, and the panel that used to slide fine starts binding at one end of its travel.
Wind gets behind a screen panel and pushes it out of the track, and on hinged screen and storm doors a gust catching the door is what tears closers out of the frame.
We see the pattern often enough across Jefferson County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Morris: soil movement and storm wind — typical of the Birmingham metro.

- Check it against the openingWe run the frame through its travel and watch where it tightens, which shows whether the fault is the frame or what it runs in.
- Assess the frame for squareA racked frame will not sit in the track properly no matter what mesh is in it.
- Choose mesh for the jobStandard, pet-resistant, solar or fine insect mesh. The right one depends on the door, the exposure and what tore the last one.
- Rescreen with correct tensionEven tension and properly seated spline so the mesh does not sag or pull out of the channel. We flush the running surfaces properly on metro jobs rather than just wiping them, since fine clay packs into places a cloth will not reach.
- Fit and adjust the rollersBoth rollers set so the frame runs level and the latch meets its keeper without lifting.
- Check it stays in the trackA screen that can be lifted out is one gust from being on the patio, so the height and the guides get set properly.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of screen door repair in Morris
Pricing on screen door repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- storm door hardware such as closers and latches
- custom-built replacement panels where the original is not repairable
- rescreening versus repairing or replacing the frame
- the mesh type chosen, from standard fiberglass to pet-resistant and solar
- roller and track work in addition to the screen itself
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Morris.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Screen door repair in Morris: questions we get asked
My storm door blew open and broke. Can it be repaired?
Usually yes: the closer and its mounting take the damage. We repair the mounting and fit a wind chain so the next gust does not do the same thing.
Can a bent screen frame be straightened?
Sometimes. Light aluminum frames can often be brought back to square, but a badly racked frame is usually better replaced, and a custom panel is not expensive.
My sliding screen keeps falling out. Why does it keep happening?
The rollers have worn down so the panel is riding too low and the top rail no longer sits in the head channel. Lifting it back in without replacing the rollers means it will come out again, usually within days.
Do you make custom-size screens?
Yes. Older openings in Morris are rarely a stock size, and building a panel to the actual measured opening is the only way to get one that fits and stays in.
What mesh should I use if I have dogs?
Pet-resistant mesh, which is a heavier vinyl-coated polyester, and often a pet grille across the lower section. Standard fiberglass will not survive a dog that pushes against it.
My screen mesh has gone brittle and crumbles. What happened?
UV exposure. Screens on the south and west sides of a house in Morris take a lot of sun, and standard fiberglass mesh eventually degrades. Solar mesh lasts longer and cuts heat at the same time.
