Our Pelham customers are spread from Oak Mountain to the Cahaba Valley Road corridor and out around Oak Mountain State Park, and we serve the surrounding Shelby County communities on the same schedule.
Pelham has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why window repair fails in the Birmingham metro
The metro runs humid from April to October, then flips to freezing nights in January, and hardware that was fine in August starts binding in winter.
Grit in slider window tracks and in balance channels increases friction, and that extra drag is what breaks balances and wears rollers out early.
Structural movement racks window openings, and a window that will not lock anymore is often a window whose sash is no longer parallel with its frame because the wall moved.
It is why the same repair done properly in Pelham lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Pelham: grit and dust and soil movement — typical of the Birmingham metro.

- Identify the window type and manufacturerBalances, operators and hardware are specific, and getting the right part is most of the job.
- Test the moving parts independentlySash movement, locking and sealing each get checked separately so we know which one has failed.
- Check the drainageWeep holes and sill drainage get checked on any window with water intrusion, because that is usually the cause. Metro-area openings often sit on clay that moves seasonally, so we check the frame for square before touching the hardware.
- Repair rather than replace where it makes senseFrames and glass usually outlast hardware by decades, and hardware is replaceable.
- Reseal properlyCorrect sealant on a clean, sound surface, and glazing set with the right blocking so the unit is supported rather than pinched.
- Test operation and lock engagementThe sash should move with light effort, stay where it is put, and lock without being pulled into position.

Every window repair call in Shelby County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:
- screen work alongside the window repair
- glass unit size, tempering and low-E coatings
- single window versus several in one visit
- commercial glazing and access requirements
- wood repair and rot splicing where the frame is damaged
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Pelham.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Window repair in Pelham: questions we get asked
Water is coming in at my window sill. What causes that?
Usually blocked weep holes. Windows are designed to collect water in the frame and drain it out, and when those drains clog it backs up and comes inside instead.
When is a window genuinely not worth repairing?
When the frame itself has failed structurally or the window is so far gone that repair costs approach replacement. That is a much smaller set of windows than you would think from replacement advertising, and we will tell you when you are in it.
Is it worth repairing old wood windows?
Very often, yes. Old wood windows in Pelham were made from better material than most modern replacements and were designed to be repaired. Rot can be spliced, sashes rebuilt and balances replaced.
Why will my window not lock anymore?
The sash has dropped or shifted, so the lock and keeper no longer meet. Forcing it can break the lock, and the actual fix is usually alignment rather than new hardware.
My window will not stay open. What is broken?
The balances. On a double hung window they counterweight the sash, and when one fails the sash drops. It is a replaceable part and far cheaper than a new window.
How do I stop condensation on my windows in winter?
Some of it is indoor humidity rather than the window. But if the glass surface is cold enough to condense heavily, the unit may have failed. In Pelham it is worth checking whether the moisture is on the surface or between the panes.
