Our Point Clear customers are spread from the Scenic 98 corridor to the Grand Hotel area and out around the Grand Hotel Golf Resort, and we serve the surrounding Baldwin County communities on the same schedule.
A lot of what we see in Baldwin County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

Blowing sand gets into everything down here. Tracks, screen channels, thresholds and lock cylinders all collect it, and it acts like sandpaper on moving parts.
High humidity saturates the desiccant in a sealed glass unit quickly once its seal has begun to fail, and it also keeps wood sashes at a moisture content where rot can get started.
Salt corrodes window balances, latches and the metal spacers in insulated glass units, and coastal windows lose their sealed units and their hardware well ahead of the manufacturer's expectations.
Knowing that is the difference between a repair that holds through a Point Clear summer and one that does not.
Local factors we account for in Point Clear: sustained humidity and salt air — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

- Identify the window type and manufacturerBalances, operators and hardware are specific, and getting the right part is most of the job.
- Test the moving parts independentlySash movement, locking and sealing each get checked separately so we know which one has failed.
- Check the drainageBlocked weep slots put water on the sill and into the wall, and they are behind a lot of what gets blamed on the glass.
- Repair rather than replace where it makes senseBalances, operators, locks and glass units are all serviceable parts. A whole window is rarely the honest answer.
- Reseal properlyCorrect sealant on a clean, sound surface, and glazing set with the right blocking so the unit is supported rather than pinched. We check the drainage path on every coastal opening, because wind-driven rain gets in where ordinary rain never would.
- Test operation and lock engagementThe window should open, close and lock without force.

Pricing on window repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- wood repair and rot splicing where the frame is damaged
- single window versus several in one visit
- the type of window and whether replacement hardware is still available
- commercial glazing and access requirements
- glass unit size, tempering and low-E coatings
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Point Clear.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Window repair in Point Clear: questions we get asked
My casement crank spins without moving the window. Why?
The gears in the operator have stripped. It is a common failure and a straightforward replacement as long as we can identify the manufacturer.
Water is coming in at my window sill. What causes that?
Usually blocked weep holes. Windows are designed to collect water in the frame and drain it out, and when those drains clog it backs up and comes inside instead.
Can painted-shut windows be opened again?
Usually yes, with care. It takes patience to cut the paint seal without damaging the sash or the stops, but old windows in Point Clear homes are often perfectly serviceable once freed.
My window will not stay open. What is broken?
The balances. On a double hung window they counterweight the sash, and when one fails the sash drops. It is a replaceable part and far cheaper than a new window.
Can foggy windows be repaired?
The sealed glass unit gets replaced, but the frame, sash and hardware stay. That is the repair, and it costs a fraction of window replacement.
How long does window repair take?
Balance, hardware and screen work is usually under an hour per window. Glass unit replacement takes a measuring visit and then a fitting visit once the unit is made.
