Between Riverside proper, the the US-78 corridor area and the newer building out toward Depot Street, we stay busy in St. Clair County, and Moody is close enough that we are often nearby.
A lot of what we see in St. Clair County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

These are the patio door repair faults we are called out to most often in Riverside. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The keeper and the lock hook no longer line upPanel drop. The hardware is fine, its position relative to the frame is not.
- The lock will not engage without pushing the doorPanel alignment has drifted and the latch no longer meets the keeper.
- Condensation between the panesThe insulated glass seal has failed on one or more panels.
- The threshold is loose underfootFasteners have worked out or the sill has deteriorated underneath.
- Weep holes at the sill are not drainingBlocked drainage, which is what puts water on the floor rather than any failure of the glass.
- Sunlight visible along the top edgeThe panel has racked or the head channel has separated.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why patio door repair fails in the Appalachian foothills
Storms coming off the ridges dump a lot of water in a short time, and any door with a compromised threshold pan will show it on the floor inside.
Patio door sills catch a lot of water and rely entirely on their weep holes to get rid of it, and heavy rain plus blocked weeps is the standard recipe for water on the floor and rusted-out roller assemblies.
Freezing weather makes the interlock and sill weatherstrip on a patio door brittle, and once those seals crack the door loses most of its ability to keep weather out even though it still looks fine.
We see the pattern often enough across St. Clair County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Riverside: heavy rainfall and winter freezes — typical of the Appalachian foothills.

- Establish the age and the makerPatio door hardware is manufacturer-specific. Identifying the system decides whether parts are available or need adapting.
- Check the opening for squareWe measure the reveal at both jambs and the head. A racked opening explains most patio door faults on its own.
- Take the panel out where it is neededRollers, interlocks and the track cannot be properly assessed with the panel in place.
- Replace what wears, keep what does notThe frame and glass usually have years left. We change the parts that failed and leave the rest alone. In the foothills we check exposure on each elevation, since a door on the weather side ages at a completely different rate to one that is sheltered.
- Reset alignment and sealThe panel is levelled, the interlock is checked along its length, and the weatherstrip is set to contact without dragging.
- Check the drainageWeep holes cleared and tested so the sill sheds water instead of holding it.
Most doors we see are repairable.Call and find out before you price a replacement.
Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of patio door repair in Riverside
Pricing on patio door repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- the weight of the panels, which drives hardware selection
- whether glass units also need replacing
- whether rollers alone or rollers plus track work are needed
- the type of patio door and how many panels it has
- the condition of the weatherstrip and threshold
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Riverside.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Patio door repair in Riverside: questions we get asked
Why is there a draft down the middle of my patio door?
The interlock weatherstrip where the panels overlap has compressed or gone brittle. That seal does most of the work on the middle of the door and it is replaceable without touching the glass.
My patio door rattles in the wind. Is that a problem?
It means the panel is loose in the frame and the weatherstrip is no longer holding it. Beyond the noise, it also means air and water are getting through, and in St. Clair County storm season that matters.
Do multi-panel stacking doors need different service?
They need more attention to alignment. With three or four panels, every panel has to be set right or they bind against each other, and the weight per roller is higher than a standard slider.
Do you work on French patio doors as well as sliders?
Yes. Hinged French pairs have a different set of problems, mostly hinge sag, astragal binding and multipoint lock failures, but they are just as repairable.
How do I make my patio door more secure?
A foot bolt or auxiliary lock at the bottom of the panel and anti-lift hardware in the head channel. The factory latch on most patio doors is not much, and in Riverside it is one of the most common weak points on a house.
Can you fix a foggy patio door glass panel?
The seal on the insulated unit has failed and the glass itself needs replacing, but the frame and the rest of the door do not. We replace the glass unit in place.
